La nueva caja de Frank Zappa documenta los famosos conciertos de 1971 en el Fillmore East
Una de las bandas más fascinantes y controvertidas de Frank Zappa será celebrada en una nueva caja, “The Mothers 1971”, que saldrá a la venta el 18 de marzo.
El paquete de ocho CDs – una expansión del LP en vivo “Fillmore East – June 1971” – incluye los cuatro shows realizados en el Fillmore East de Nueva York el 5 y 6 de junio de ese año (incluyendo el famoso bis con John Lennon y Yoko Ono) y una actuación en el Rainbow Theatre de Londres el 10 de diciembre.
La formación de Zappa en el Fillmore incluía a Zappa (voz, guitarra) con Ian Underwood (maderas/teclados), Jim Pons (bajo), Aynsley Dunbar (batería), Bob Harris (teclados/voz), los vocalistas Howard Kaylan y Mark Volman (alias “Flo & Eddie” de las Turtles) y el teclista invitado Don Preston. El espectáculo final se convirtió en uno de los más notorios de Zappa por presentar a Lennon y Ono durante el bis, incluyendo una versión de “King Kong” que desembocó en una jam experimental más tarde titulada “Scumbag”.
La caja de 100 pistas y 10 horas de duración también incluye un “concierto híbrido” inédito con muestras de los conciertos del 1 y el 3 de junio en Scranton y Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, junto con un anuncio radiofónico casero (más tomas falsas relacionadas) y el raro single de “Tears Began to Fall” y su cara B, que no es un LP, “Junier Mintz Boogie”, estas últimas melodías reeditadas por primera vez en 50 años.
La edición física incluye un libreto de 68 páginas que contiene una entrevista con el multiinstrumentista de los Mothers, Underwood (realizada por Ahmet Zappa), junto con recuerdos de Pons y otros.
“The Mothers 1971” también estará disponible para su transmisión y descarga.
